Buy an 8" x 8" tile.  Match the kitchen and style of the person you are giving it to.
While you are at the home improvement store, purchase 4 drawer pulls or handles for the trivet's legs.

When you get home, wash the tile well with soap and water.
Dry the tile.
Glue the legs at each corner of the tile.

Stand back and look at your work!

 They look great on buffet tables or kept beside your stove.
